S/Sgt Jaeger was a gunner on B-24 #42-73070, assigned to the 10th Air Force, 7th Bombardment Group, 493rd Bombardment Squadron. They were part of a formation to bomb targets in the Rangoon area. About 15 minutes from the target area they were attacked by Japanese fighter planes. the bomber lost #1 engine and they fell behind the formation, losing altitude. They dropped their bombs over the target and seemed to hold 9,400 feet until just south and east of Akyab, when they went into a heavy cloud bank and were not seen again. Because his body was not recovered, he is memorialized on the Tablets of the Missing.

Assigned to the 10th Air Force, they were part of a six plane formation on the way to bomb the town of Pakokku when they were attacked by fifteen to twenty Japanese fighters. After several attacks, Johnson's plane had suffered heavy damage and went out of control. It rolled over on it's back and and dived straight into the ground from 11,000 feet. Two of the other planes were shot down as well.

Johnson was a gunner on B-24J #42-73063 'H2O Eleanor', assigned to the 10th Air Force, 7th Bombardment Group, 493rd Bombardment Squadron. Returning from a bombing mission to Rangoon, the plane was jumped by Japanese fighters and shot down. The pilot, 1st Lt Robert Murray, was able to ditch the plane in the Bay of Bengal west of Foul Island. Johnson was killed, the other nine crewmen survived and were rescued by a British PBY. Because his body was not recovered, he is memorialized on the Tablets of the Missing.
