TSgt. Anthony M. Amato, ASN 12049730
Anthony M. Amato as born to Italian immigrants Theresa and Francesco Amato on September 18, 1920, in Jersey City, N.J., the fifth of seven children. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps shortly after Pearl Harbor and graduated from flight school. He was assigned to the 493 Bombardment Squadron, 7th Bombardment group as a flight engineer on a B-24, rising to the rank of T/Sgt. He flew numerous bombing missions in India and China and received several medals, including the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Medal. After his discharge in 1945, Tony was employed by Mills Hospital Supplies (now Medline Industries) as one of their first sales representatives and was with them his entire career. He received many awards and accolades from Medline and the hospitals he worked with. He made his final flight on January 18, 2021, to his Heavenly Home where he is now with his beloved wife of 64 years, Marge, and all of his relatives who passed through the gates of Heaven before him.
